Coach Florenz says the hardest thing about coaching track is having to make all of the workouts for all the different events and work with the weather and indoor facilities.
“Also trying to manage a team with 70 students and only two coaches is very difficult,” she said.
Coach Florenz said she was excited about the meet on Dec 17, 2024 at Hamilton College. ” I am always excited to see everyone’s individual progression through the season,” Coach Florenz said.
Dec 17, 2024 was the first meet and a few runners on the team did an outstanding job!
The 4×200 came in 3rd and the 4×400 came in first. Triple jumper Nitesh Constantine placed 2nd in the triple jump, and overall The team came in 4th.
Coach also said that she started coaching track because she was also a runner back in high school and loved the sport and loves helping runners achieve their full potential.”
As a member of the track team myself I encourage the underclassmen to work hard everyday at practice and strive to be better every day.
I took the time to interview two athletes on the team who really enjoy what they do.
The first person runner I interviewed was Mike Radell who is a thrower on the team.
“I joined track because it’s fun and chill,” Mike said. Mike’s best throw is 24-3.75 for shot put.
I also interviewed another runner named Sarah Garrabrant who runs the 3000, 1500, 4×8, and the 1000.
“I joined track because I like running and because of my friends,” Sarah said.
Sarah’s time in the 1000 meter run at the december 14th meet was 3:56.95 which earned her first place and was her best time in this race. Sarah’s best time in the 1500 is 6:17.83 and in the 3000 her best time is 13:44.10 according to milesplit.com.
The team leaders always encourage everyone to do their best and work hard everyday to help the team improve.
The next track meet is on Jan 11 at OCC.
