BOCES is a nice program to allow students to set up their career in the future. BOCES allows students to be more prepared for what their career may look like. Today I will be focusing on cosmetology. This program allows creativity and helps people use their beauty skills to the fullest.
I also took some time to interview a few students who are currently taking this course. I wanted to see all points of view, Revae Kwikowski is a senior at New Hartford High School who has been enrolled in this program for two years so I asked her a few questions about cosmo.
MJ: What’s something good that you get out of cosmetology?
RK: “I get to make others feel good about themselves and feel accomplished by my work.”
MJ: I think this is important because the program helps people find themselves.
Does it teach good skills?
RK:“It does teach good skills in hands on and knowing the science behind hair and also problem solving skills.”
MJ:What is your main goal you want to achieve after this semester as a senior?
RK: This semester I want to try and finish out my second internship and get good grades.
I also interviewed another senior at New Hartford who is in this program. I wanted to explore more ideas with this program, Olivia Appler. I asked her a few different questions to understand more perspectives.
MJ: What advice are you willing to give to future students?
RK: Make sure you are there everyday and complete your work, because participation and homework being done is a big part of the grade
I decided to dig into some important skills and opportunities cosmetology has to offer.

There are many open places for cosmetology. It has such a wide variety of careers allowing students to take their time choosing which path they are willing to take.
According to Paul Mitchell School, “Unless you choose to specialize in one practice, there are other potential options when you work as a cosmetologist. You can build upon your skills to add variety to your workday. Many cosmetologists work with hair, doing:”
I like how with this career you can choose what you want to do everyday is a new start and different. I think that is important to keep a good motivation to continue.
Lastly, something that stood out to me in the article written by Paul Mitchel School is that “In many jobs, you don’t see the result of your hard work until much later, if at all. With cosmetology, you get instant access to your results and achievements.” I think that this quote is important because it can create a good motivation to continue to grow and learn.
I think seeing the progress you are making will really help someone mentally and help them improve and have a good reference of what they can do, knowing that you are making a good progress helps keep record of what’s going on.
Overall the BOCES program helps with tips and tricks to find yourself and express your own artistic ways. Its important that you and your customers find a place they are comfortable in. Helping others feel happy and confident in their own skin will make you feel better about yourself.
