Hamilton, one of the highest grossing broadway shows of all time isn’t JUST a Broadway smash. It is also part of the 11th grade English curriculum here at New Hartford High School.
On November 8, High school teachers Mr. Ryan, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. McDermott, Ms. Ciaccia, Ms. Ellis, Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Anggaputra took a long awaited road trip to the Big Apple to see Hamilton. For most of these teachers this was their first experience seeing Hamilton live in NYC.
Mr. Ryan, an 11th grade English teacher, thought it was amazing.
“Better than I ever imagined,” he said. “we got to see a couple original cast members, namely Lesley Odom Jr.”
Leslie Odom Jr. was performing as part of his 12 week return to the stage to reprise his role as Aaron Burr.
“That alone was worth the trip, and the ticket price. He won the TONY for that role and we got to see him!” Mr. Ryan said.. Lesley Odom Jr. performs the song ‘Wait for it” which is a fan favorite and one of Mr. Ryan’s favorite parts of the show!
Mrs. McDermott also agrees that Leslie Odom Jr’s performance was pretty amazing.
“Watching Leslie Odom Jr, was by far the highlight of the whole show,” Mrs. McDermott said. She also couldn’t ignore the beauty of the Richard Rogers theatre where Hamilton has made its home for the last ten years
Ms. Ciaccia, high school resource teacher, commends the performance as well.
“I thought it was absolutely incredible, the actors and actresses were unbelievably talented,” Ms. Ciaccia said.
She was most impressed by George Washington’s character.
“My favorite part of the show was when George Washington sang “One Last Time”, the actor who played George Washington (Tamar Greene) had a captivating voice that left a powerful impact!” Ms. Ciaccia said.
