Lunch during school is very important to students as it gives them food during the day and gives them a break between their school work, and one thing so many students have been loving is off campus lunch.
From the looks of things, students really love the opportunity to get out of school for a little bit and get their lunch from somewhere else.
“I really like being able to go home and eat something at my house, and I like to leave the building for a little while to eat different food,” Jack Taylor said.
“I like it a lot because it gives me the freedom to go hang out with my friends and eat somewhere else like McDonald’s just to be out of school for a little while,” Michael Niebuhr said.
Our New Hartford Sr. High Dean of Students Matt Romanow explains that our school has given students the opportunity to go off campus during lunch.
“New Hartford students have the unique opportunity to enjoy lunch off-campus,” Mr. Romanow said. “While students are always more than welcome to stay in and take advantage of our Spartan Cafe, they are also welcome to leave campus and visit local restaurants. We are happy that students have this opportunity and always remind students that they need to treat our neighboring lunch spots with care and respect, so that open-campus lunch is an option for future years of students.”
It also supports the local economy and business, as many people go to Calabria during lunch for coffee.
While this can be beneficial to students there are some pros and cons that come with letting students leave campus for lunch. According to The Raider Review, a high school newspaper, “Supporters argue it allows students to develop a sense of independence and responsibility while enjoying more satisfying meals. Adversaries argue that off-campus lunch has a negative connotation and raises too many concerns.”
Students enjoy being free to pick what they do for lunch. People are more than welcome to stay in the cafeteria if they like the food there, but if the students ever want a break or to get anything from their favorite fast food places or restaurants, it’s good to know that students have the opportunity and privilege to go out and get the favorite lunch of their choice outside off school. Students appreciate the freedom and getting off campus for lunch helps them feel better going into their next assignment for their next classes.
