I was out stargazing
with all those friends of mine,
when you passed by.
the atmosphere hushed,
reverent and awed;
the sky was new.
I saw your red
streaking through
the pitch black sky,
the faint golden glow,
fading,
fading,
dimmer as you fell
from your place
among the stars.
I glimpsed you for a second,
and the next
you were gone.
all I have left
are these few bright spots,
my vision blurred,
flashing in rainbow colors.
you were ephemeral,
but the colors remain.
maybe someday,
I’ll give them back to you,
but please
let me hold them
for just a little longer.
oh meteor,
I cannot rest
until I know.
did it hurt,
when you fell
from heaven?
(did you live
to hit the ground?)
