The Spartan football team is now 3-0 to start their season. The team looks to keep the wins coming and eventually get right back to the Sectional Championship where their season ended last year.
The Spartans, led by Coach Jim Kramer, have started off the season in the best way possible, outscoring opponents 125-26 and proving themselves to be one of the most dominant teams in the class.
After a great previous season where the Spartans went 10-1 with an unfortunate loss in the sectional championship, the team looks to have a similar season but with a better ending this year.
“We want to play as good as we can and make it as far as we can. We want to come into each week with a mindset to win,”said Senior offensive and defensive lineman Jack Taylor.
This is Jack’s second year on the team so he knows what it’s like to be successful and more importantly how to earn victories.
Even after losing 19 seniors, the team still has multiple all-state and all-CNY players returning and a lot of new talent finally getting their chance to shine along with many young freshmen and sophomores.
The Spartans’ Week 0 victory over Adirondack in their home opener followed by their Week 1 road win against Homer set them up for a 2-0 vs 2-0 matchup against Syracuse ITC which they won 35-6 in a hard fought battle.
One of the keys to success for the Spartans has been their offense.
“We have a very strong passing game,” fan Ian Evans stated.
But the offense can’t do it all: the Spartans have been stout on defense and special teams as well.
“So far I think we have been great on both sides of the ball and special teams,” Jack Taylor.
The first game has been highlighted by the big win and also the great energy from the fans who were excited to see the Spartans play.
“The environment was fire because we were up by 40 points,” Ian Evans said.
Leading them through those first two victories were seniors Wilky Joseph, Jake Garcia, Sal Weller, Trevor Fobare, and Jermaine Burton; and juniors Johnny Vitullo, Peyton Way, Jonah Snizek, Sam Beaton, and Mathew Morris.
The start of the season has sparked a lot of excitement for the rest of the season as fan Chad Hull stated, “I’m looking forward to future games.”
The Spartans take on Oneida this Friday at 6:00 PM looking to keep the wins coming.
