A new school budget has just passed with 71.8% approval, the new budget is worth 64,443,792 million dollars which is a 1,625,429 million dollar increase from last year. With the increased budget there is a 2.24% tax levy.
The budget would be used to implement the main goals of looking for improvements in the learning environment that will benefit the future, focusing on individual students’ success and financial stability, and creating a connected community.
Also up for vote was the new bus proposal and two new board members. The two new members are Kim Strong and Jeffery Kolb.
The candidates posted their information on the New Hartford Central School District website. Kim Strong, a New York Mills and Utica College graduate, is going to serve her first term next school year. She is a physical therapist, and an active member in the community. When she is not participating in the Hughes PTA she can be found volunteering at animal shelters and on clean up crews. She is dedicated to supporting both students and teachers and wants both of them to succeed.
The other new member, Jeffrey Kolb, a service branch manager at diebold nixdorf. He is a New Hartford, RIT, and SUNY Poly grad. Kolb is also a volunteer fireman at the New Hartford fire department. His goals are to improve communication with the community.
