Multiple awards, brilliant storytelling, and an epic soundtrack. These are the many notable things about the hit show Arcane.
The show recently concluded its 2nd and final season in November 2024, with the first one airing in 2021 on Netflix. The story follows a struggling conflict of hextech science and war between Piltover and Zaun. The first season focused more on inner conflicts, such as Jinx and Vi’s sibling relationship. With the recent season, it follows the sister’s relationship, but branches off to the purpose of technology as a whole in Runeterra.
Prior to the release, many people were skeptical of a video game adaptation from Riot Games. Many adaptations seem to be hit or miss, however once season one aired, they broke that curse. Reviews and critics praised the show from all over. Even people that haven’t played the video game before, enjoyed the show the whole way through. An ever-growing fanbase originated from the show, as fans anticipated for more from their favorite characters (Jinx, Vi, Ekko, Caitlyn, and much more).
Senior Tyler Hyunh is one of the many fans that love the show.
“I thought Arcane was a masterpiece in both writing, symbology, and art,” he says. “The show became a gateway for many people into the lore of Riot Games, as they got invested into the story and relationships.”
While not as good as season one, season two delivered an excellent finale to close the story of Arcane.
Although audiences are sad the story is over, this won’t be the end of shows in the world of Runeterra.
Co-creator Christian Linke remarks, “We’re developing follow up projects currently. We hope to cover more regions in the universe of Runeterra,” reported Sports Illustrated.
He further explains that the next regions would be Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia, notable areas with stories to tell from the video game.
Many fans have speculated that the next show will take place in Noxus, the brutal, warmonger empire. Moments throughout Arcane, such as Mel and Ambessa being from the empire, and the main villain was teased at the ending with the crow.
“Either Demacia or Noxus was next for me,” Tyler says, “I am glad the Arcane crew will go more in depth into the history of Mel, and have a better glimpse at Ambessa’s country.”
Recently, a new cinematic called “Welcome to Noxus” aired on January 7th, 2025. Already racking up 86 million views on Youtube, many fans thought that it was a teaser for Noxus after Arcane.
However, the creators have confirmed that it’s not, as it’s a teaser for their new video game season. The next series still has a long way to go, but it will be well worth it.
