It’s that time of the year again: there are tests and quizzes happening every week and a great way to succeed and get good grades is by studying. There are so many helpful ways to study and make you feel prepared for an upcoming test.
One of the most common ways to study is using notecards. Most people find this study hack most successful for remembering vocabulary and other notes in class.
As you review notecards, you can sort them by how well you remember them, allowing for more review of difficult topics and less for those you know well.
“My favorite study hack is making flashcards and reading them out loud. Reading and writing the information helps me remember,” Brenna Mendez, a sophomore student, said.
Another helpful way to study is using online resources like Blooket, Kahoot or Quizlet. These games are designed to help you study and remember notes or questions. These games can be hosted in class by teachers, played alone or even with a group of friends.
“I find them very helpful because they make learning interactive and enjoyable,” Rayan Khalid, a student from New Hartford High School said. “Quizlet is great for creating flashcards and reviewing definitions, while Kahoot and Blooket make studying feel more like a game. Using these tools helps me stay engaged and remember information longer.”
In recent years studying online by playing games can most of the time be helpful, while for others it can be too repetitive.
“In my opinion, Blookets get to a point where it stops helping because instead of understanding the question, you end up answering them based on pattern recognition,” Oliva Lin, a student from New Hartford said. “I think gamifying studying, though not too effective, can definitely help some people study- everyone studies differently after all.”
It’s helpful to study alone in a quiet and comfortable environment so it’s not distracting and it’s easier to focus and remember information and notes. But sometimes studying with others and “teaching” them the information works better.
