Being a physical education teacher is just as much fun as it is hard work. Both the teachers and the students like getting some exercise in the New Hartford Senior. High’s gym.
“I love my job and enjoy seeing success! I have a great relationship with all my students and enjoy seeing my students each day!” said Mrs Randall.
In addition to being fun, physical education is important to students as it’s healthy for their bodies and can also help them socially.
“Physical education is so important to all students,” Mrs. Randall said. “PE is a state mandate in New York State, and all students must pass PE before they can graduate.”
PE can also be mentally important as it helps students socially and can help keep them in good shape.
“PE is important for a student’s mental, physical, and social well-being,” Mrs. Randall said. “I call it a ‘movement class’ because we are up and out of chairs and desks, and moving throughout the entire class. In our classes, we teach a variety of activities, games, life-long activities, and incorporate weight lifting.”
Managing everything in a school gym can’t be easy, as it requires a combination of strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of physical education activities, and the ability to adapt to different student needs. P.E. teachers also need excellent communication skills, a focus on safety, and the capacity to manage class dynamics while also overseeing administrative tasks like equipment maintenance and student progress tracking– and our P.E teachers handle it really well.
“As a Physical Education Teacher we need to manage our curriculum, class units, and lesson plans,” Mr. Carnot explained. “During any particular class we need to manage things like classroom attendance, the class lesson, structure, timing, organization of the class, necessary classroom equipment and grading.”
A big part of physical education is making sure the gym is a safe environment for the students to participate in.
“Also, we need to be aware and keen on things that might come up like classroom behavior and individual needs on a given basis,” Mr. Carnot said. “We need to ensure that our classroom is a fun and safe learning environment for everyone involved.”
I know people can sometimes feel self conscious about their bodies and the way I see it, only you can truly know what you’re comfortable with, but if people are interested in losing a few pounds they can go to a local gym to get in shape and having a physical education teacher is a great resource to help you learn how to create a healthy workout for yourself.
According to Google AI, “A physical education (PE) teacher is responsible for instructing students of all ages on the importance of physical fitness, health practices, and movement skills through planned lessons that incorporate a variety of activities like sports, games, exercise routines, and sometimes even dance, aiming to develop motor skills, coordination, teamwork, and overall physical well-being while promoting a positive attitude towards active lifestyles.”
Two seniors Jack Taylor and Michael Niebuhr said, “I like when we go outside for softball, and when we go to the driving range to golf.”
The bottomline is PE gets students in good shape, makes them more socially active, and makes them have a lot of fun while possibly waking them up in the morning.
Our physical education teachers create a safe, fun environment as they help students get more physically active and provide students a chance to interact with their classmates.
