Marching Band Back in Business

Last year on October 29, 2023, New Hartford performed at the J&M wireless Dome and ended with 3rd place.

Austin Lafond, alto saxophone player said, “regardless of last season’s outcome, I was proud of what our team became and the challenges we overcame.”  While Parker Putnam, trombone player said, “I didn’t feel as accomplished without winning but it was still a good season.”

Mr. Fabbio had a non competitive view and said, “if you mean our placement at state championships, I have absolutely no regrets. We had an exceptionally challenging show with an enormous amount of complexity.  Everyone in the group did a fantastic job, and it was probably my favorite show that I have ever been a part of.  Our final performance of the year was also incredible, and I could not have asked for anything more.”

Now, with the new marching band season starting, the show is titled “Icarus” but first begins doing the tradition of marching around New Hartford in the memorial day parade. Mr. Fabbio offered thinking on “Icarus” and said to be honest, it was Ben Phelps’ idea.  Ben is our music writer/arranger, along with being our brass instructor.  He was thinking about what our band might look like for this year, and he just thought it was a great concept for the students that we would have. Austin and Parker are both excited for this season.

“As always, the goal is to be the best we possibly can be, and to try and improve upon what we did last year,” said Mr. Fabbio.  “But more than that, I want to have as many students in grades 7-12 involved as possible.  I want as many students as possible to give the marching band a chance, because I know it will be an incredible season and an unforgettable experience!”
