The New Hartford Spartans boys bowling season has officially come to an end for most. This season the Spartans led the TVL in total wins with a record of 14-1. The Spartans also defended both the Class A Section 3 win, and their TVL Tournament win for the third time in a row.
The Spartans won the TVL tournament with a record breaking 5 man score of 3,541 pins for 3 games. This excellent score calculated to a 236
average per bowler winning by over 500 pins over the second place team.
Spartan athlete Trevor Cyr says, “…I think that record won’t be broken by any other team from the TVL for a long time.” Trevor also says, “Me and my teammates bowled great that day and we were determined to end the season on some sort of win…”
With all of the success listed this season as well as the last few seasons, the Spartans expectations were high for this season, but ended in some disappointment.
“We had very high expectations for ourselves through the years and that goal has been winning a state title,” says freshman bowler JP Lazzaro.
The Spartans will not be going to state championships this year as they did the last two years. They were not able to capture the Section 3 Division title again.
“I’m disappointed in not being able to go to the states,” says junior Trevor Cyr.
“I would’ve expected us to go to states this year and potentially win,” says senior bowler Nick Bennett.
This was the last season for the four seniors on the team: Ethan Kosowski, Brendan Krol, Nick Bennett and Ken Kowalczyk. Although the season didn’t end as the team expected, the seniors can reflect on the special moments made during their high school bowling careers.
“The atmosphere surrounding the team” was what made senior Ethan Kosowski’s high school bowling experience special for him as a senior.
Senior Brendan Krol states, “All throughout my high school career the big intense matches always were the most fun and memorable, including the sectional and state finals.”
Senior Nick Bennett mentions his favorite moments that made high school bowling special was winning “back to back sectional titles and technically a three peat,” and “…going to states where I got third best series.”
