2024 has finally come to a close, after an extra long and eventful year. 2024 has included so many meaningful and important events, such as the election, the Summer Olympics, the rise of AI, and many more events. The year has been an innovative year, and it has been the culmination of so many ideas, arts, and actions. Some New Hartford students shared their opinions on the year and some of their favorite moments.
“I loved baseball this year,” Logan Sainsbury, a junior, said. A baseball player himself, he shared his admiration for the sport, especially the world series between the Yankees and the Dodgers.
“The Dodgers won against the Yankees in 5 games,” Logan explained. As a Yankees fan, he was disappointed with their loss, but still mesmerized with the sport and the incredibly long playing season for the MLB.
He also talked about another one of his favorite sports, football.
“My favorite event of 2024 was watching Syracuse football and watching them through their many wins–especially Kyle McCord’s performance,” Logan said.
Some of his favorites in the media this year were Syracuse football, the song “Perfect Timing” by Shedur Sanders, and “In and Out” by Lud Foe. Overall, the year was a good year for the sports fans according to Logan.
When asked to describe 2024 in one word, he said, “Unpredictable for sure. It’s been a very strange but good year.”
Mori Reichenbach, a senior, also contributed her thoughts into the mix.
“I really appreciate AI,” Mori said. “Although it can be used for different purposes, I feel like it can be such a good learning tool and has so many more uses than people think.”
She shared that despite some of the bad rep it gets, the rise in popularity from the past few years, especially 2024, could be seen as a good thing.
“I think it could come a long way and earn a better reputation in the future,” Mori explained.
One of her favorites in the media has been Gracie Abrams’ new album Good Riddance.
“Abrams’ album was really good,” Mori said. ” I’m a big fan of her work.” Mori’s love for the artist extends, as she’s written a review of the album in her own article, featured on the Spartan Expressions.
Mori would describe 2024 in simply one word: “Growth. No explanation.”
Ella Thompson, another senior, also kindly shared some of her opinions on the year. “This year was incredibly erratic.”
“One of the best parts of the year for me was the music released.” Some of her favorites of the year were “A Great Chaos” by Ken Carson and “I Am Music” by Playboi Carti, which was never officially released but heavily teased throughout the year.
“I would describe this year as erratic. It had a lot of ups and downs but overall was pretty fun,” Ella said.
This past year has definitely been a chaotic year, and everyone has some mixed feelings about it. No matter how 2024 went, there’s only time to go up and move forward with the New Year and the start of 2025.
