As the 2024-2025 school year kicks off many people only think about winter break. This year New Hartford school had two full weeks off because Christmas landed on a Wednesday so people had a lot to say about this special break. People were very busy and had many things planned such as going to Hawaii, skiing, and spending time with friends.
Nick Raiano, a senior, he said he went to Hawaii where he experienced many fun activities, such as surfing, hiking, and being with family.
“It was a blast,” Nick said. “There was something new to do every day.”
His favorite thing he did there was hike Diamond Head. The diamond head was used in a war when Japan attacked the Hawaiian islands.
“At the top of it you can see the whole coast of Maui,” Nick said. “It was breathtaking!”
Just like Nick, Jermaine Burton had a crazy Christmas break too.
“ I went skiing at Woods Valley Saturday and had a great time until I was going down Copy Cat also known as a hill at Woods Valley. Everything was normal until when I went to turn, I slipped and landed on my shoulder. When I got up I didn’t feel anything for like two minutes. Then my shoulder was hurting. When I took my jacket off I could tell my shoulder was popped out of place. I was lucky enough that it popped back in but later that day I had to go to the doctor. The doctor said I needed surgery,’’ Jermaine said.
Lastly, I got to exchange words with a junior, Peyton Way, who said,’’ My break was amazing because I didn’t have to wake up early and got to catch up on sleep. Also, I got to spend Christmas Eve with many of my family members that I hadn’t seen in a year. I also took advantage of us not going to school by working as many hours as I could.’’
As this rare Christmas break occurred, many people found it relaxing and amazing. Many students won’t have the chance again to have 2 weeks off for Christmas break because it happens only every 5 to 6 years.
