Last year the girls basketball team ended their season with a heartbreaking loss against Indian River in the quarter finals. Now they are seeking their revenge. The girls team only lost two seniors last year so most of their players are back. With a lot of team building and teamwork on the court, a sectional title is possible.
The girls team has three seniors this year and is returning seven players from last year. These players are seniors Tara Fobare, Ava Brazier, and Daniel Lucas; sophomores Charlotte MacTurk and Allie Phillipkoski; freshman Kamryn Richards and 8th grader Addie Way
Senior point guard Tara Fobare had a lot to say about her senior season.
“When we lost to the Indian River last year, it wasn’t the way we wanted the season to end,” Tara said. “Even though we also lost our starting point guard Kacey Richards and Kate Noonan, everyone has to step up this year if they want to go farther than we did last year. Many teammates have a section championship in mind and it’s possible because we have the pieces.”
Senior Ava Brazier also thinks the team has a bright future ahead of them
‘’Our team this year has many players who can shoot which makes it harder for the defense to guard us,” Ava said. “This year we have more quick and aggressive guards so our press is amazing and it makes it hard for the team to get the ball over half court. We definitely have a chance of winning the sectional, but it’s gonna be hard. We have to keep practicing and working hard.’’
8th grader Addie Way got pulled up to Varsity last year during sectionals. Her favorite moment was getting her first point on Varsity: a three pointer in the first round of sectionals.
‘’The coaches have been preparing us more for better teams than last year,” Addie said. “The team can improve by working better as a team and improving team chemistry. I feel like since there are a lot of underclassmen more team bonding would make a sectional run possible.
The lady Spartans are starting off strong with a 3 and 2 record and looking for more wins.
